Advanced Research, Spacewalk Preps End Week as NASA Announces Artemis Status

The Expedition 75 crew worked on a 3D bioprinter and a levitation furnace at the end of the week to advance health and high-temperature physics.

Two astronauts are also preparing for a spacewalk at the International Space Station as NASA announces the status of upcoming Moon missions.

NASA flight engineers Luke Delaney and Anil Menon were back on bioprinting duty continuing to convert vascular cell samples into newly printed blood vessels.

Delaney set up the BioFabrication Facility for printing and Menon processed the engineered human tissues for nourishing and cultivation.

Flight engineer Joshua Kutryk of CSA (Canadian Space Agency) swapped sample hardware inside a specialized research furnace that levitates samples with an electric field and heats them with lasers.

NASA flight engineer Jessica Watkins tested the operations of backup water quality-testing hardware and a gas-flow controller.

All four astronauts gathered together after lunchtime for a spacewalk procedures conference with engineers on the ground.

Menon and Kutryk will exit the Quest airlock on Thursday, Oct. 29, to install a roll-out solar array on the station’s truss structure. Watkins and Delaney also trained to operate the Canadarm2 robotic arm to assist the spacewalkers next week.

The cosmonaut trio from Roscosmos with Pyotr Dubrov, Anna Kikina, and Sergey Teterytatnikov, completed a plasma crystal study that explored the interaction of highly charged gases and microscopic particles.

The trio also serviced radiation detection gear, explored super intelligence tools, and collected blood pressure measurements on Friday.

The orbital outpost is critical in preparing for missions to the Moon and eventually, Mars.

First Lady Melania Trump Secures Ceasefire Between Russia and Ukraine, Localized to Oleshky

First Lady Melania Trump successfully secured a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, localized to the city of Oleshky. Both nations agreed to temporarily stop all military action in Oleshky to allow for humanitarian aid to enter and to prepare a civilian evacuation through a designated safe passageway.

The localized ceasefire will begin on October 29, 2026.

“The situation in Oleshky is dire. Oleshky is a front-line war city on the brink of disaster. Oleshky’s remaining population is comprised primarily of elderly residents who urgently need medical attention, medicine, food, and clean water,” said First Lady Melania Trump. “The people of Oleshky have limited electricity, live amid mined roads, and endure regular military attacks. It was abundantly clear that without my intervention, the possibility to bring humanitarian aid into the city and to evacuate the elderly would be impossible.”

First Lady Melania Trump and her representative worked directly with Russian and Ukrainian leadership to define the terms of the localized ceasefire. The First Lady initiated discussions with both nations and aligned the parties on the agreement’s objectives, technical procedures, timing, processes, and terms, in her formal role as Exclusive Intermediary.

“Non-military, civilian leaders from both countries will work together to visit Oleshky residents in their homes and determine the level of assistance they require. Residents who wish to evacuate will receive coordinated support and transportation to their preferred destination. I anticipate some will want to go to Russia, and some to Ukraine,” said First Lady Melania Trump.

The First Lady continued, “I have also secured an impartial American media organization to accompany and document Russian and Ukrainian teams on the ground throughout the process. This will play a significant role in ensuring that the wishes of each family are faithfully respected.”

The exigent circumstances of Oleshky came to First Lady Melania Trump’s attention during a private discussion at her Fostering the Future Together event in New York City during the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

“My representative and I immediately leveraged the communication channel we established with Russia and Ukraine through the previous six reunifications of 34 children. Both nations promptly assigned teams to coordinate the complex mechanics involved, including demining. All parties have worked around the clock since that moment,” explained First Lady Melania Trump.

Oleshky is located in southern Ukraine, directly across from the Dnipro River in Kherson. Before the war, roughly 24,000 people lived in Oleshky. Major updates on NASA’s Artemis III and Artemis IV are in order. The agency has planned a live press conference where it will share updates on the progress of its Moon missions on October 23.

The conference will begin at 2 pm EDT at the Kennedy Space Center with NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, Deputy Associate Administrator Amit Kshatriya, and Artemis Program Manager Jeremy Parsons as the participants.

“The update will include details about NASA’s Artemis III mission that will send four astronauts to low Earth orbit next year to test critical systems needed for future lunar landings, and how plans to return American astronauts to the Moon by 2028 are progressing,” a NASA statement read. High-stakes Artemis missions ahead

Work is in full swing for Artemis III, which is slated for launch in mid-2027. It’s an Earth-orbit mission focused on demonstrating docking capabilities of the Orion spacecraft with private landers built by SpaceX and Blue Origin.

Artemis IV, on the other hand, is when astronauts will return to the lunar surface on these landers for the first time since 1972. This mission is slated for launch no earlier than 2028.

Notably, the success of Artemis III will decide the launch of the next mission, which hinges on timely delivery of landers and their performance during the docking demo with Orion.

According to a timeline shared by NASA, SpaceX plans to land an uncrewed Starship on the Moon before the end of 2027, whereas Blue Origin is aiming for the first quarter of 2028 for an uncrewed mission.

While Blue Origin is building its Blue Moon Mark 2 lander (52 feet tall) for the Artemis Program, SpaceX is developing a much larger vehicle (171 feet tall) to transport astronauts to the lunar surface.

Both of them will be tested in Earth orbit by four astronauts who will launch atop the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket for the mission.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has said that Starship is expected to fly weekly in the first half of 2027, and a higher launch cadence may help NASA proceed rapidly toward the Moon landing.

He has even said that Starship may launch twice weekly or maybe even more frequently than that by 2028. That is also the year SpaceX is hoping for its Starbase Louisiana to become operational and launch the first Starship—the first step to achieving as many as 30 launches per day.

In the timeline NASA shared, it listed several milestones that the commercial landers must achieve before 2028.

It includes flight testing, long-duration orbital tests, and a large-scale on-orbit propellant transfer for Starship V3, a lunar landing for Blue Origin’s Mark 1 lander, and a Moon landing demonstration from both landers.

It is worth noting that Starship has flown on just one orbital mission so far, and that too wasn’t without any hiccups. Next month, the rocket will launch on its 15th integrated test flight, and SpaceX is aiming to catch both its stages using the launch tower.

Recovery of both stages will be an important step in achieving full reusability with Starship. However, Musk has said that it may not be successful this time.
